The Story.........

After a relaxing Christmas period passed us by quickly, it was soon time for another feis. This time the location was Newcastle at the 15th Annual Clann Na NGael Feis, and what a start to the feis calendar it was.

With over 50 different schools in attendance, 3 floors and a stage to oversea, organiser Barbara Slater ADCRG certainly put her experience of running this annual feis for over 15 years into action. The whole weekend went without a hitch from start to finish.

A beautifully decorated stage set the scene with outstanding Trophies, Medals and Stunning Crystal Irish Dancing Awards on display.

For the first time, the Clann Na NGael Feis ran Preliminary Championships, as well as Open Championships. These Preliminary Championships proved to be very popular amongst the dancers. Entry into this competition was for those dancers who have never placed top 5 in a Championship before.

The Preliminary Championship Cup/Trophy was stunning and the standard of competiton for all the dancers was tough as they all wanted to get their hands on one as the winner.

Every year one highlights of the
Clann Na NGael feis is the
'Freestyle Treble Reel Competition.
Dancers can, if they wish, get all 'dressed up'.
The audience just love it with clapping
and cheering throughout each dancers performance.

Rory Hyslop of the McElvogue School, Newcastle, winner of the under 11 Treble Reel with Adjudicator Michael Maguire, London.

A very touching moment on Sunday was the presentation of the
'Mary Lindsay Challenge Trophy' presented by Mary Lindsay ADCRG
in person.
Mary is responsible for teaching Barbara Slater and most of the teachers in the North East of England the art of how to Irish Dance.. Mary took to the microphone like an 'old pro' and she received a great big round of applause from Adjudicators, Teachers, Dancers and Parents in recognition for everything she has done bringing Irish Dancing to the North East of England.

Acknowledgements

Special mentions go to Feis Chairperson, Christine Wright and all the members of the friends of Clann na nGael, also to all the lovely parents who worked so hard and made all parents, dancers and visitors feel so welcome at the Feis. Another mention to 'Super Cool' Jan Rule who was MC of the main stage throughout the weekend. It was quite evident just what a good team Barbara had behind her as the support she received from all her parents, dancers and friends, was very touching. It is easy to see why so many people return year after year to this feis as it felt as though you were part of one big happy family.

Barbara would like to say a huge 'Thank-you' to everyone and to say she is already looking forward to
