Mick McGorry The History Behind the Columba Feis |
||||||||||||||
In 1973, Viewpark man, Mick McGorry decided to organise his first feis to raise money for local charities as well as raising funds for the Verona Fathers Order. Mick was dedicated and raised large amounts of money throughout the years and many local charites have benefited from his kindness and generosity. The Columba Feis became very popular with many visitors travelling to attend this competition, many travelling from, England and Ireland. The Feis has seen a few venue changes throughout the years, with the Burnhead Halls, YMCA, Cardinal Newman High School etc, but for many years it has been held in the Viewpark Comminity Centre. Sadly Mick passed away in 1999, but his daughter Phemia has carried on the tradition and is feis organiser at this very popular feis.
